TRADIZIONE E FOLKLORE
L'Eremo di San Gandolfo è meta di pellegrinaggio nel periodo primaverile e
fulcro di due importanti feste locali. In settembre, in occasione della
ricorrenza del santo patrono, i fedeli giungono all'eremo in massa per portare
in paese la statua lignea di San Gandolfo che è qui sistemata. La statua viene
condotta in processione il sabato sera e il lunedì pomeriggio, mentre la
domenica pomeriggio è protagonista della processione l'urna argentea del santo
custodita nella Chiesa Madre. In primavera, e precisamente il settimo mercoledì
dopo Pasqua, si celebra poi il cosiddetto "ultimu mircuri" con
processione dalla Chiesa Madre all'eremo, messa e benedizione delle campagne.
Alle
nocciole, uno dei prodotti tipici della zona di Polizzi, è dedicata una
sagra a metà agosto: in questa occasione vengono allestite riproduzioni di
antiche botteghe e mestieri polizzani e vengono distribuite nocciole verdi ai
convenuti.
Altre feste legate a ricorrenze religiose sono la festa du Bamminu (6
gennaio); quella di san Giovanni di Dio (8 marzo), di san Giuseppe (19 marzo).
Ancora, la Settimana Santa, la festa del SS. Crocifìsso ( 1/4 maggio), di Santa
Lucia (13 dicembre), e il Natale

The San Gandolfo
hermitage is a destination for pilgrimages in the spring period
and the fulcrum of two important local feasts. In September, for
the feast of the patron saint, the faithful go to the hermitage
in big numbers to take the wooden statue of San Gandolfo from
here to the village. The statue is carried in a procession on
the Saturday evening and the Monday afternoon, while on the
Sunday afternoon the protagonist of the procession is the silver
urn of the saint kept at the cathedral church. In spring, and
precisely on the seventh Wednesday after Easter, the so<alled
"ultimo mircuri" is celebrated, with a procession from the
cathedral church to the hermitage, mass and blessing of the
countryside.
There is a feast of walnuts,
which are another typical product of the Polizzi area, in the
middle of August: on that occasion reproductions of old
workshops and Polizzi trades are set up and green hazelnuts are
given to people who come there.
Other religious feasts are "la
festa du Bamminu" (6 January); St.John of God (8 March), St.
Joseph (19 March).Then there is Holy Week and the feast of the
Most Holy Crucifix (1-4 May), St. Lucy (13 December) and
Christmas.
